Demetri McCamey to Test Waters

Illinois junior guard Demetri McCamey announced his intention to enter the NBA draft Wednesday, but will not retain an agent and still could return to the Illini.

"I feel now is the time for me to seriously explore my lifelong dream of playing in the NBA," McCamey said. "I will continue my coursework while preparing for workouts, and I do not plan to hire an agent in order to retain my eligibility. Coach Weber has helped me every step of the way, and I will work closely with him during this process as I pursue my goal of playing professional basketball."
The withdrawal date is a change from previous years. For example, prospects last year had until June 15 to withdraw their names. And since McCamey can't miss class time to go and work out for NBA teams, he will have a limited amount of opportunities to showcase his skills and improve his draft status.
