Gani Lawal to Forego Senior Season

Excerpt from the Macon Telegraph:

One of potentially two much-anticipated, but expected, basketball announcements came Friday afternoon, as Georgia Tech forward Gani Lawal made it known he is forgoing his senior season to enter the NBA draft.

“I am ready to take the next step in my basketball career and look forward to the upcoming process of getting ready for that,” Lawal said in a statement from Georgia Tech. “I want to thank (head coach Paul) Hewitt and Georgia Tech for the opportunity to come to school here and play for the Yellow Jackets. I’ve enjoyed my time at Tech and have benefited greatly from it.”

This is the second time Lawal has entered his name in the draft process. Last spring, in hopes of testing the waters and fielding the appropriate analysis from scouts and league officials, he entered the process but withdrew just ahead of a May deadline to remain in the draft.

It does not appear he has any plans of testing the process again this time.
