UMass' Gurley Declares

Excerpt from MassLive.com:

University of Massachusetts men's basketball guard Anthony Gurley has declared himself eligible for the 2010 NBA Draft.

Gurley will be a senior next season. He was second on UMass in scoring last season with 13.6 points per game.

He has not hired an agent, meaning he can return to school next season if he withdraws by the May 8 deadline. According to Fox Sports' Jeff Goodman, Gurley is one of 80 college players to have declared for the draft.

UMass coach Derek Kellogg said Gurley is hopeful of getting some workouts from some NBA teams to see where he stands as far as a chance to play in the NBA.

The 6-foot-4 Gurley played all 32 games in 2009-10, starting 13. He came off bench in the last 14 games, and had some success in a sixth-man role.

"There is no penalty, no downside (to declaring),'' Kellogg said Thursday.

"He just wants to see how he stacks up in comparison to some other players, gather information on what he needs to work on, and see what others think of him.''
