Who Should the Nets Pick: Favors or Cousins?
With the draft order now set, the top two, though held by different teams, remains unchanged. John Wall will infuse a struggling Washington franchise with much needed talent, and Philadelphia would have a hard time passing up Evan Turner at number two.
That leaves one major question unanswered: Who should the Nets take? Going into Tuesday night, we had DeMarcus Cousins slotted into the third pick, which is now held by the Nets. This morning, we moved Derrick Favors into that slot.
For the Nets, it comes down to fit; who can fits better next to center Brook Lopez. That player appears to be Favors. While Cousins is a very talented big man, perhaps the best collegiate big in the nation as a freshman, he is not a very good athlete. At 6-11, 270, his best fit will likely be at center, which the Nets have filled by Lopez, in the NBA.
That leaves Favors, a much better fit for New Jersey. Compared to Cousins, Favors is not as good offensively nor in the post, but he is improving. He is an efficient scorer, a good rebounder, and strong defender. Perhaps more importantly, his athleticism will allow him to play next to Lopez.
With a month left until the draft, it will be fun (though Minnesota may disagree) to watch as the Nets come to their down conclusion.
