Draft Profile: Illinois PG Demetri McCamey
![]() | Demetri McCamey #32 College: Illinois Class: Senior NBA Position: Point Guard Height: 6'3" Weight: 200 lbs Birthday: 2/21/1989 |
Player Biography: Demetri McCamey is a difficult prospect to evaluate. McCamey is one of the best pure point guards in college basketball as evidenced by his very impressive assist rate (38.1%). He has improved his shooting as a senior, hitting on 47% of his threes. McCamey has also slimmed down, which has helped his athleticism. Despite his obvious talent, I'm just not confident in McCamey at the next level. He most notably made waves for his sideline argument with Illinois coach Bruce Weber as a junior. More recently, Weber had been critical of McCamey, saying, "He was playing so well, and all of a sudden, the runners, the agents, the third-party people, they're all telling him he's an all-American and this and that. Then, he stopped coming in to work hard and spend extra time on his shot and all the stuff you need to do." That is worrisome, though McCamey will still likely be drafted.
