New Mexico's Hopson to Test Waters
Excerpt from the American Chronicle:
Darington Hobson, the versatile third-team All-American swingman for the New Mexico Lobos made it official Tuesday afternoon.
He is entering the NBA Draft and forgoing his senior season.
But by not hiring an agent, Hobson actually has until May 8 to pull his name back out of the hat and retain his NCAA eligibility, meaning if NBA scouts don't essentially assure him he will be a first-round draft pick, Hobson will return to the team for the 2010-11 season.
It's a decision that head coach Steve Alford said wasn't really a difficult one for his junior star.
"He's nuts not to do what he's doing," said Alford, a former NBA player, adding "the real press conference isn't until May 8."
"Every hour of every day," Hobson said of how often he's thought about whether he should enter the draft, a decision he's gone back and forth on several times.
As for now, however, he's committed.
"I'm in it right now," Hobson said. "There's no looking back right now. Well, not until May 8, at least."
